Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites Open

HOMEWOOD SUITES BY HILTON AND HAMPTON INN OPEN

UNIQUE JOINT HOTEL IN SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND

Dual-branded project in Downtown Silver Spring is the first to combine Homewood and Hampton brands

Silver Spring, MD Dec. 22, 2008 – Homewood Suites by Hilton, the international brand of all-suite, residential-style hotels, and Hampton Hotels, the international brand of more than 1,600 mid-priced Hampton Inn and Hampton Inn & Suites hotels, announces the landmark opening of the first dual-branded development.  Located at 8728 Colesville Road in Silver Spring, Maryland, the 13-story hotel boasts 149 Hampton rooms on the lower eight floors and 90 Homewood studio suites on the top five floors. Originally built as an office building in 1969, the conversion into the new hotel has won the 2008 Architectural Conversion Award. The renovation is paralleled by the revitalization efforts of Silver Spring within the past 15 years, returning the warmth and character of the city and making it the second most popular destination in Maryland.

The property is owned by Milestone Capital Corporation and managed by Milestone Hospitality Management, who also own and manage the Hilton Washington DC/Silver Spring. Thrilled with the addition of the Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites to its Downtown Silver Spring repertoire, the management is looking to broaden their horizons and offer proper amenities within a variety of price points to all travelers in the DC Metro region. Appointed Area General Manager, Joseph Lumpp and Area Director of Sales, Chris Colvin, lead the management team at the new property, with a combined forty-five years of experience in the hospitality industry. Joseph Lumpp has twenty-six years of experience in the hospitality industry, working in a variety of markets throughout the United States, with the past six working with Milestone Hospitality at the Hilton in Silver Spring. Chris Colvin’s experience as a director in the hotel industry began twenty years ago in the Washington DC market, with the last five at the Hilton Washington DC/Silver Spring.

The hotel shares common spaces between the Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites, while keeping specific entities separate. The lobby, which is decorated with four kilnformed glass pieces by local artist Kari Minnick, is split between the brands. The vibrant colors of the artwork carry a large presence in the room, commanding attention from visitors. Although the main lobby is shared by the two brands, each has a separate check-in desk and lodging/dining area, which cater to the needs of their respective customers. Communal areas include the meeting rooms, business center, pool, and workout room.  An interactive media presentation is displayed on a 42” flat screen television in the lobby, which describes the layout of the hotel for guest education.

Homewood Suites guests enjoy a daily complimentary Suite Start hot breakfast in the hotel’s hospitality center—the “Lodge”—an evening reception featuring a complimentary light meal and beverages Monday-Thursday evenings, an executive business center, and a 24-hour on-site pantry. In a separate room, Hampton Inn guests are offered a complimentary On the House hot breakfast seven days a week and a 24-hour hot tea and coffee station. All guest rooms feature amenities such as complimentary high-speed internet access, free in-room movie channel, and Hampton’s signature cloud nine bed – the ultimate bed experience.
