Safe Summer Camps and Programming to Help You and Your Family
Not sure what to do with your kids this summer? The Silver Spring Arts & Entertainment District is here to help you. Our arts organizations are offering licensed summer camps, creative programming or summer jobs to keep your children and teens occupied and engaged this summer. From Pre-K to 18 years old, trained and trusted teaching artists will offer live and responsive programs to entertain and engross your child's imaginative thinking.
Silver Spring arts organizations are offering a combination of safe-at-home virtual and in-person programming to respond to the different needs and comfort level of every working family. Next summer (or in classes throughout the year), you can send your children to these same hands-on learning sites so they can meet their fellow campers and teachers in-person. In the meantime, Silver Spring theater, filmmaking, music, and visual arts organizations are offering interactive camps streamed right to the safety of your home. Or for those of you who need in-person childcare, we have that too (COVID restrictions permitting). Regardless of choosing virtual or in-person summer camps, the teaching artists are committed to making your family's physical safety and mental health a priority. We understand it is important for children to connect with their teachers and other campers to truly enjoy the raucous summer camp hilarity that makes memories into adulthood.
You know us, you trust us, and we'll take care of your kids this summer so you can take care of everything else.
Round House Theatre
Parents, Round House knows you’re doing your best to find interactive activities for your student, and we want to assist by inviting them into virtual classrooms filled with fellow young theatre artists! Your favorite Round House Theatre Teaching Artists will lead your student through activities in acting, movement, design, and playmaking. As a parent, you can get work done while knowing that your young artist is busy with fun, engaging, and LIVE activities with our teaching artists. You deserve a break this summer too—so let us take the lead on content creation and send your student on a journey to Destinations!
- Camps will happen in small virtual groups, allowing your student to enjoy interacting closely with their teaching artists and fellow young artists.
- We will provide everything you need for camp by shipping art supplies, templates for crafts, and activity sheets directly to your door—no need to shop for supplies or worry about the running out of printer ink.
- We will welcome family into our final virtual session each week to share some of our favorite experiences and creations.
- Each day we explore a different destination, allowing students to attend multiple sessions and never visit the same place twice!
- Participation in camp requires an internet connection and device capable of video conferencing. Round House is offering class online via a password-protected video conferencing account.
At Round House Theatre, we’re committed to continuing to make theatre with our students—even if we have to do it with some physical distance at the moment. We will continue to inspire creativity, exercise imaginations, and promote artistic risk-taking with your student!

Levine Music
Although we cannot enjoy a traditional, in-person experience, we don't want our campers to miss out on a "Camp Levine experience" this summer! This spring, our Levine Music faculty have had tremendous success teaching lessons and classes in an online format. Therefore, in addition to the multitude of offerings in our Levine Summer Online Catalog, we have reimagined several of our most popular Camp Levine classes to launch virtually, allowing families the flexibility to customize their child's Camp Levine experience from home.
Classes can be purchased separately or in bundles. All camp classes are scheduled on weekday mornings and early afternoons, following our previously scheduled session dates (Session 1: June 29-July 17 and Session 2: July 20-August 7). The bundles create options to take classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. A complete class bundle is also available at a discounted rate.

Docs in Progress
Docs In Progress has been supporting emerging filmmakers for more than 12 years. Some of the most heartfelt, rawest work has come from the teens participating in our annual summer filmmaking workshops. It is a fun and dynamic learning experience. This year we decided to have a theme -- "Inside Voices: My Life under COVID-19." We want to be a vehicle where our young filmmakers can express what they are going through -- good and bad, funny and sad -- during these difficult times for themselves, their families and their communities. Each camp will be capped at ten participants and includes a limited number of scholarships slots.
July 7-17: ages 12-15
July 27-August 7: ages 16-18
Classes will be held via Zoom from 10-noon with afternoons set aside for writing, filming and post-production. Each participant will receive a loaner gear bag with iPad and other equipment. They also will be assigned a Teaching Assistant who will work with them during the afternoons of independent activity. Teaching Artist is Angela Pinaglia, filmmaker, former Docs Fellow and present Docs In Progress’s inaugural Fellow facilitator, and Summer Filmmaking Camp Instructor with The American University. Angela recently completed the documentary, Life in Synchro about women and the sport of synchronized skating.
