One of the best ways to celebrate is by immersing yourself in the AFI Latin American Film Festival, one of North America’s largest and longest-running showcases of Latin American cinema. Now in its 35th year, this festival is a cornerstone of Washington's cultural scene, featuring award-winning films, in-person conversations with filmmakers, and exciting Embassy-hosted events.
With the inclusion of films from Spain and Portugal, the festival beautifully highlights Ibero-American cultural connections during this special month. Montgomery County's annual Thanksgiving Parade is set to take place on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to noon in Silver Spring. As the only Thanksgiving parade in the Washington metropolitan area, it’s a cherished tradition that brings together a vibrant mix of performers, artists, and community groups to celebrate the holiday season. Whether you’re a local organization or a creative performer, we invite you to be part of this colorful event and help make this year's parade the best one yet!
Applications to participate in the parade are open until Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 11:59 p.m. and are free for all. With highlights like giant inflatable turkeys, festive floats, lively dance troupes, and Santa himself, it’s an event you don’t want to miss. We encourage groups of all kinds—from multicultural organizations to marching bands and sports teams—to apply and showcase their creativity. Don’t miss your chance to shine in front of thousands of spectators. Rain or shine, the parade will march through the heart of Silver Spring, kicking off the holiday season
