The Silver Spring region has long helped make the “M” for Maryland shine in the DMV dining scene. That reputation is reflected this year in EaterDC’s latest “38 Best Restaurants” list.

Eater’s national food media network highlights standout restaurants across the broader region. This year, three restaurants on that list are located within the Silver Spring regional services area, underscoring the region’s continued role in drawing diners to Maryland and Montgomery County.

Silver Spring at the Top of a DC Dining List

Leading the very top of the list is J. Hollinger’s Waterman’s Chophouse, located in downtown Silver Spring. J. Hollinger’s reflects a category of dining Silver Spring has long supported well: polished, destination-driven restaurants built on consistency, craft, and experience.

Known for its chophouse classics, seafood and raw bar offerings, and carefully curated wine and cocktail program, J. Hollinger’s attracts diners who are intentionally choosing where to eat — and are willing to travel for it. Its placement underscores Silver Spring’s strength as a regional dining destination, not just a neighborhood stop.

Regional Recognition Beyond Downtown

The recognition extends beyond downtown Silver Spring. Two additional restaurants featured on Eater DC’s list are located in Main Street Takoma Park.

Cielo Rojo brings a thoughtful, ingredient-driven approach to Mexican cuisine, grounded in regional flavors, seasonal sourcing, and careful technique. Known for its mezcal-forward beverage program and warm, intimate atmosphere, Cielo Rojo has become a destination for diners seeking a refined yet approachable experience.

Motorkat, a longtime Takoma Park favorite, offers a modern take on New American comfort food, with a menu that balances creativity and familiarity. With its welcoming setting, strong neighborhood following, and consistently well-executed dishes, Motorkat continues to draw diners from across the region.
Together, these restaurants reflect a side of the Silver Spring regional food scene centered on classic excellence, strong concepts, and regional appeal, complementing the area’s broader cultural and international dining landscape.

A Food Scene That Pulls People into Maryland

The presence of three Silver Spring–area restaurants on a nationally recognized DC dining list isn’t about trends or reinvention. It’s about visibility and validation for a region that has long drawn people into Maryland to dine, gather, and explore.
From downtown Silver Spring to Takoma Park and beyond, the Silver Spring region continues to show up as a place worth traveling to for food — helping make the “M” for Maryland shine in a dining conversation often centered on the District.
