In downtown Silver Spring, we are spoiled when it comes to coffee destinations! More Ethiopians live in the Washington, D.C., region than any other urban area outside of Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital. A U.S. Census Survey put the Ethiopian population in Montgomery County as the largest concentration in the region. So it only makes sense that the hub of Montgomery County, Silver Spring, our community pays homage to its Ethiopian coffee roots with longstanding options like Kefa Cafe, a staple in the community for over 20 years, to Kaldi’s Social House (named after the legendary goat herder who is said to have first discovered the coffee plant) to Zed’s Cafe, Nagadi Coffee Roasters, LeSaac Ethiopian Cafe, Black Lion Cafe, Fenton Cafe and Sheger’s Spring Cafe. But we wouldn’t be Silver Spring if we didn’t have multiple ecelctic options from Crave Cafe’s Caribbean coffee roots to music-based focus Bump N Grind, to the Thai-inspired Sweeteria and more. They all contribute to Silver Spring's reputation as the unofficial coffee district and a true coffee destination. Beyond coffee, these coffee spots serve as community-rich gathering spaces where friendships are forged, and conversations flow freely. It's much more than just coffee; it's about fostering connections and THE coffee experience.
