Long Branch has reached an exciting milestone! The neighborhood has officially been designated as a Maryland Main Street, recognizing years of revitalization, community investment, and support for local businesses.

To celebrate, Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP) is inviting the public to a free ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, July 13, beginning at 3:30pm at 8739 Flower Avenue, Silver Spring.

The celebration will feature remarks from Maryland Secretary of Housing & Community Development Jacob R. Day, MHP President Robert A. Goldman, and other community leaders.

Guests will also enjoy guided tours of Long Branch's vibrant business district, parks, and public art, the unveiling of MHP's new office space made possible through Project Restore funding, and an announcement about the state's new Destination Main Street initiative.

Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to an open house reception from 5 to 7pm featuring food from local restaurants and opportunities to connect with neighborhood businesses and community members.

Located between downtown Silver Spring and Takoma Park, Long Branch is known for its diverse restaurants, locally owned businesses, colorful murals, welcoming parks, and year-round community events. This new Main Street Maryland designation makes Long Branch one of only two communities in Montgomery County to receive this distinction, providing additional funding, technical assistance, and resources to help strengthen its commercial district and preserve its unique identity.

Since 2011, MHP has worked alongside the Long Branch Business League and community partners to revitalize the neighborhood through streetscape improvements, public art, outdoor gathering spaces, business support, facade enhancements, and community programming.

Looking ahead, the future Purple Line station will make Long Branch even more accessible, helping more residents and visitors discover everything the neighborhood has to offer. Whether you're a longtime resident or visiting for the first time, this celebration is a wonderful opportunity to experience the community spirit that make Long Branch one of Silver Spring's most vibrant neighborhoods.
