Get ready for a DAZZLING DISPLAY of holiday cheer at the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade, happening NEXT SATURDAY, NOV. 16, in Downtown Silver Spring! From glittering floats and marching bands to 12-foot inflatable turkeys, stilt walkers, and Santa Claus himself, this annual tradition promises a vibrant celebration for the whole family. The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. from Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street and travels south on Georgia Avenue, ending at Silver Spring Avenue. Rain or shine, it’s the perfect way to usher in the holiday season.
Special guests, including Olympic medalists Thea LaFond and Aaron Ghebre Owusu, will join Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and the ABC7 First Alert Weather Team’s Eileen Whalen for the opening ribbon-cutting ceremony. With over 150 parade units showcasing live performances from groups like the Akhmedova Ballet Academy and Maryland Youth Ballet, there’s no shortage of entertainment. Plus, don’t miss unique floats, performing dogs, Hanukkah bears, and a massive T-Rec-reation inflatable!
Plan ahead for parking or take the Metro’s Red Line to Silver Spring for easy access. Attendees should note that road closures in the area will begin as early as 6 a.m. For those eager to get involved, the parade is seeking volunteers (ages 13 and older) to dress up as elves, ribbon twirlers, and more. Visit the Silver Spring Downtown website to sign up or find additional event details. Don’t miss this spectacular kickoff to the holiday season!
