Just three years after the landmark success of his "Purple Rain" album, tour and movie, Prince made the shocking move to disband The Revolution and form a new backing band. The new lineup included drummer Sheila E., guitarist Miko Weaver, bassist Levi Seacer Jr. and keyboardist Boni Boyer, plus dancer/choreographer Cat Glover in a featured role. Only keyboardist Doctor Fink and the horn section of Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss remained from the Revolution days. This was the lineup that toured Europe in 1987 in support of the "Sign o' the Times" double album, called "the most expansive R&B record of the '80s" by Rolling Stone, and is captured live on stage in this legendary concert film, directed by Prince and released that same year.

Highlights include "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man," "If I Was Your Girlfriend" and the hit video for "U Got the Look" featuring Sheena Easton, which plays like a dreamlike film-within-a-film here. Prince's performance confirms him as the one of the greatest musicians and showmen of all time, but viewers won't soon forget Sheila E.'s thunderous drumming or Glover's high-energy dance pyrotechnics either.
