Special Presentation | Q&A with filmmaker Jorge Thielen Armand on Sept. 24

Genre royalty Asia Argento stars as Caro, a fragile woman who returns to Venezuela to claim her inheritance, a crumbling cacao plantation, in Jorge Thielen Armand’s (FORTITUDE, LA SOLEDAD) anticolonial fever dream. Caro’s plans to sell the land for a quick buck grind to a halt when she discovers her familial mansion is now inhabited by its former staff, who refuse to leave. Venezuelan law supports their claim to the house, as they have lived there undisturbed for over five years. But Caro is not afraid to go outside the law to take back what she believes is rightfully hers. Armand continues to impress with his command of form, combining hauntingly atmospheric visuals with evocative sound design, while Argento is electric as a woman pushed to the brink, suffering for the generational sins of violence committed on stolen land.
