In dreamy voice-over narration, 11-year-old Lucía relates the story of a life spent suffering abuse at the hands of her mother and stepfather while finding solace in the waters of El Salvador's Lake Coatepeque, which teems with tiny fishes. One day, after returning home from the market, Lucía finds her younger siblings have all disappeared and her mother refuses to speak about what happened. Unwilling to be separated from them, Lucía sets out into the world to find answers and reunite with her family. Salvadoran filmmaker Brenda Vanegas (BEFORE THE RAIN) crafts a powerful drama based on real-life stories, shining a light on child exploitation in El Salvador.
