In this delicate story by Salvadoran filmmaker Arturo López Rodas, three old friends — Ricardo, José and Paco — reunite for a funeral after several decades apart. As they reminisce about their pasts through a long conversation mingled with jokes and drinks, they reflect on their friendship and the larger ideas of masculinity, life and death. Unfolding via understated cinematography that artfully mixes stark black-and-white with lush color photography and naturalistic dialogue, VERTICES captures the vitality of connection, the slow passage of time and the importance of companionship.
