Join historian and public librarian Ben Egerman for a discussion of A Gay Little History of Maryland, a collection of six zines exploring 150 years of Maryland's LGBTQ+ history.
Drawing from newspaper archives, court records, letters, and oral histories, the book highlights stories ranging from 19th-century transmasculine horse thief George Wilson to the passage of Baltimore's gay rights bill in 1988. It also explores gay bar raids, Black drag pageants, lesbian heiresses, and the growth of Baltimore's LGBTQ+ movement, emphasizing the central role of Black LGBTQ+ communities in the state's history.
