About

In recognition of Caribbean Heritage Month in June, AFI Silver is proud to once again host the DC Caribbean FilmFest. The festival is co-presented by Caribbean Association of World Bank Group and IMF Staff (CAWI), the Caribbean Professional Network (CPN), Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) and Africa World Now Project.

The 20th edition of the Festival features 19 films from eight Caribbean countries, opening with two films that reflect the diversity of the region and the diaspora: Jamaican-Canadian filmmaker Chris Strikes' hilarious short PATTY VS. PATTY and Haitian-Venezuelan documentarian Mario Delatour's KAFE NEGRO: CUBA & THE HAITIAN REVOLUTION.

Other highlights include Haitian actress-turned-director Gessica Généus' bold Cannes-debuted drama FREDA; the East Coast premiere of AFRICAN REDEMPTION: THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MARCUS GARVEY; and 50th-anniversary screenings of Jamaican classic THE HARDER THE COME.

The lineup also features several music-related films which celebrate the musical traditions of the Caribbean, including STUDIO 17: THE LOST REGGAE TAPES; plus films about music legends John Santos (SANTOS – SKIN TO SKIN), Don Letts (REBEL DREAD), Rudy Plaate (ATARDI), Daniel Santos (THE LAST TOUR) and Ken Boothe, Winston McAnuff, Kiddus I and Cedric Myton (INNA DE YARD: THE SOUL OF JAMAICA).

See every film and save big with DC Caribbean FilmFest all-access pass!
