In a world of anthropomorphic cars (nobody knows what happened to the humans…), hotshot rookie race car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is on the fast track to fame, glory and the elusive Piston Cup. When he gets stranded in the forgotten desert town of Radiator Springs on his way to the championship race in California, he meets an unusual group of residents, including the warmhearted tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy), the determined town attorney Sally (Bonnie Hunt) and the wise Doc Hudson (Paul Newman in one of his final roles — and the highest grossing film of his career). After causing damage to the town’s main road, Lightning is forced to stick around to help repair it, and begins to understand the value of friendship, humility and teamwork in the process. When the time comes to return to the racing world, Lightning must decide what truly matters: winning at all costs or embracing the new friends who have shifted his perspective on what winning really means. The final film independently produced by Pixar after its purchase by Disney in January 2006, CARS went on to garner two Academy Award® nominations (Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for Randy Newman’s “Our Town”) and has become a pop culture juggernaut, with two sequels, two PLANES spinoffs, several TV series and short films, plus an entire land in Disney’s California Adventure Park.
