About

Welcome! Bienvenidos! Bem-vindo!

Now in its 32nd year, the AFI Latin American Film Festival is one of North America's largest and longest-running showcases of Latin American cinema. With the inclusion of films from Spain and Portugal, the festival celebrates Ibero-American cultural connections during National Hispanic Heritage Month.

Featuring numerous international film festival favorites, award winners, local box office hits and debut works by promising new talents, the festival is one of Washington's top cultural events. Don't miss your chance to see excellent new films and be part of the discussion between a diverse audience of filmmakers and film lovers.

Highlights from this year's slate of early announcements include Argentine box office smash and 2020 Oscar® Selection HEROIC LOSERS [LA ODISEA DE LOS GILES], starring father-son duo Ricardo and Chino Darín, in their first film together; Brazilian filmmaker Iuli Gerbase's striking Sundance-debuted THE PINK CLOUD [A NUVEM ROSA], an eerily prescient sci-fi thriller about a world in lockdown; high-octane crime thriller PSEUDO, the latest from Rodrigo "Gory" Patiño, director of Bolivia's 2019 Oscar® selection THE GOALKEEPER; Chilean social media thriller LA VERÓNICA, starring Mariana Di Girólamo (breakout star of Pablo Larraín's EMA); Ecuador's 2021 Oscar® Selection VACÍO [EMPTINESS], about two undocumented Chinese immigrants living in the port city of Guayaquil; and the U.S. premiere of THE WHISPER OF SILENCE [EL SUSPIRO DEL SILENCIO], the latest from multi-award-winning Salvadoran producer Alfonso Quijada (MALACRIANZA, PABLO'S WORD)
