MPI is grateful to the Rockville Model Railroad Society (RMRS) for countless hours spent maintaining our beloved railway model for 25+ years.

The HO scale model train display features miniature people, tunnels, bridges, mountains, a haunted house, and tiny trains that chug around the clover-loop track. The model was built by RMRS (formerly the Silver Spring Model Railroad Society) for a 1989 holiday showcase at the National Geographic’s Exhibitors’ Hall. This model resided for 17 years at the Gaithersburg Community Museum before its now permanent move to the Historic Silver Spring B&O Railroad Station.

Fred Schirrmacher maintained the train model on behalf of RMRS and all the wide-eyed children who visited the Gaithersburg museum and Silver Spring station.

Other activities: “Train Spot” under the canopy, see locomotives galore, and wave at the engineers. Indoors, play with wooden toy train sets, visit the station manager’s ticket office and 1945 telephone booth, and see historical railroad and Silver Spring photos and memorabilia.
