Lights. Camera. Documentary!

In this fun, hands-on workshop, young filmmakers will dive into the world of documentary storytelling and create their own short documentary from start to finish. Participants will work in small teams to: 

Brainstorm and plan their story

Film on location in and around downtown Silver Spring

Learn editing techniques

Produce a short documentary

Equipment + Training Included = No experience Necessary!

Participants will receive access to and training with:

Video cameras

Editing equipment + software

Premiere Day!

Final projects will be shown in a mini-festival for family and friends on the last day of the workshop, videos will be uploaded to YouTube, and may also be featured at the Community Stories Film Festival 2026.

Participants should bring a packed lunch, there is a refrigerator available for storage. We’ll provide water and nut-free snacks.

This workshop is limited to 10 students (small group = more hands-on learning!)
