This classic police drama stars Gene Hackman as New York City detective Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle, who is working with his partner, Detective Buddy “Cloudy” Russo (Roy Scheider), to intercept a large heroin shipment from France. Based on a true story, the film won five Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Hackman and Best Director for William Friedkin, who also took home the Golden Globe in that category.
