Special Features: Silent with live musical accompaniment by Andrew Earle Simpson | Free for SCC members!
Winner of the very first Best Picture OscarĀ®, WINGS boasts pioneering aerial photography and stunt work that set the template for all flyboy films to come, up to and very much including STAR WARS. Rival aviators Jack Powell (Buddy Rogers) and David Armstrong (Richard Arlen) compete to be the best both in the sky and with the fairer sex. Featuring "It Girl" Clara Bow and a memorable cameo by then up-and-comer Gary Cooper, WINGS was directed by William "Wild Bill" Wellman, himself a World War I flying ace. DIR William A. Wellman; SCR Louis D. Lighton, Hope Loring, John Monk Saunders. U.S., 1927, b&w, 144 min, plus a 15-min intermission. Silent with English intertitles. NOT RATED
